Operations Engineer - Project Integration

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations Engineering, the Operations Engineer – Project Integration is the member of capital project teams responsible for representing the Technical Services department and for being the liaison between the project team and Technical Services.As such, the Operations Engineer – Project Integration will maintain open communication with the Land, Integrity and Operations Engineering groups within Pipeline Operations.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Attend project team meetings to stay current on project status and project issues.Keep the Technical Services manager and supervisors up-to-date on the projects
  • Provide the Project Manager and Project Engineer with a single point of contact with the Technical Services department
  • Coordinate project document reviews within Technical Services and represent the department at design review, hazard analysis, and operability and maintainability reviews
  • Identify when members of the Technical Services department, with specialized knowledge, need to attend a particular meeting or otherwise be involved in the project
  • Ensure that members of the Technical Services department understand the future ongoing operations and maintenance implications of a project, and that those implications are considered for staffing and budgeting (e.g. power consumption)
  • Ensure that the Project Manager and Project Engineer understand the impact of the project on existing pipelines and facilities
  • Set a positive tone for communication and collaboration between functional departments within Pipeline Operations and the project teams
  • Coordinate the development of Minimum Technical Expectations Guidelines to ensure consistency in design and operability

Experience, Education and Skills:

  • An engineering degree (preferably Chemical or Mechanical) and P.Eng. or E.I.T. registration with APEGGA and APEGS are essential for this position
  • 5+ years of experience in a combination of facilities and project engineering roles in operating facilities in the energy or chemicals sectors
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and regulations. Experience in the pipeline industry is a strong asset
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
