The Project Manager is responsible for providing project management and detailed engineering support for a variety of pipeline and facility projects related to IPF’s Polaris oil sand diluent transportation system.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the pipeline portion of the Polaris project from concept to completion in accordance with IPF’s internal project management system (PDI)
  • Ensure projects are developed in close collaboration with Business Development, Field Operations, Technical Services, Operations and other internal stakeholders
  • Select key engineering firms and industry consultants
  • Lead periodic project team meetings involving all internal and external project team members
  • Carefully plan stakeholder consultation and land acquisition process.Obtain all necessary regulatory permits
  • Prepare and present PDI phase and gate documents to IPF management for approval
  • Ensure that the principle of lowest life-cycle cost management is applied
  • Oversee project procurement and contracting process. Manage project funds in accordance with IPF financial rules and procedures
  • Oversee construction through active management of construction management firms and contractors
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and present quarterly updates to IPF executives
  • Supervise and mentor Project Engineers to help them develop professional and technical skills
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, with minimal environmental impact, within all rules, regulations and industry best practices, on budget, on time, and are an operational success

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta with a minimum of 8 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills are required
  • Certification in project management is a definite asset
  • The candidate must possess good communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have a good working knowledge of engineering principles related to the pipeline industry and all applicable rules and regulations
  • Experience completing all aspects of a capital project including scoping, design, construction, and commissioning from an owners perspective would be beneficial
