Senior Project Engineer

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for providing project management and detailed engineering support for a variety of pipeline and facility related projects associated with Inter Pipeline Funds Conventional, Cold Lake and Corridor pipeline systems.  Knowledge of engineering principles related to the pipeline industry, applicable rules and regulations, project management, and sound judgment will ensure success in this position which reports to the Manager, Pipeline Engineering.
 

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement projects according to IPF’s Project Development and Implementation (PDI) processes, supporting the Business Development, Engineering and Operations groups
  • Support a Project Manager in the overall AFE and PDI process; design, cost estimates, reporting, and construction efforts of viable projects
  • Prepare PDI phase reviews for management review
  • Review and facilitate approval for all project scope changes
  • Work closely with EP companies during Engineering stages to ensure that projects are designed and engineered in accordance with IPF policies and guiding principles
  • Monitor and report on progress of projects throughout the PDI process
  • Drive the HAZOP and design review processes when applicable
  • Ensure that projects are completed safely, with minimal environmental impact, within all rules, regulations and industry best practices, on budget, on time, and are an operational success
  • Ensure that project documentation is properly filed and stored throughout all stages of a project
  • Knowledgeable in all operating standards, codes, rules and regulations that impact pipeline operations
  • Develop new technical guidelines as appropriate
  • Remain current with new technology related to our business through training and industry events
  • Represent the Pipeline Engineering department at various IPF technical committees and meetings

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated project management skills are required, PMI designation would be considered beneficial
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with MS Project and MS Office Suite of programs
  • The candidate must possess good communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction
  • Experience related to pipeline projects in Alberta would be an asset
