Measurement Technician

The Measurement Technician is a technical role in the area of liquid pipeline measurement.This individual will be based out of the Taber or Brooks office and will report to the Supervisor, Pipeline Field Operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for mobile meter proving throughout the Taber and Brooks districts of the Bow River pipeline system. This position will work closely with: pipeline field operations, operations supervisors, and the Measurement Advisor, to improve measurement performance and predictability. The Measurement Technician will work with other measurement specialists in developing consistent best measurement practices to be used across all Inter Pipeline Fund (IPF) pipelines.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Consistently perform responsibilities and duties to IPF’s Core Values, and EH&S Policy, Values and Commitment statement
  • Execute mobile meter proving utilizing IPF’s mobile proving truck and direct contract provers in managing meter proving as set out in the monthly proving schedule
  • Review contractor meter proving reports ensuring accuracy and validate proving results that are outside of expected limits and approve or address variances
  • Maintain the district proving truck to comply with safety and compliance regulations
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain Micro motion and PD meters and inner assemblies
  • Ensure measurement and quality control practices comply with pipeline Rules & Regulations, regulatory standards, and IPF procedures pertaining to custody measurement, device calibration, and product quality assurance
  • Work with company Measurement Advisors and Measurement Technicians to improve consistency of measurement and best practices within the Conventional pipelines
  • Assist the Conventional Pipeline Measurement Focus Team in developing standardized measurement procedures and best practices
  • Audit and evaluate measurement practices of 3rd Party custody transfer locations for compliance with applicable standards
  • Ensure prover calibrations and meter proves are conducted according to procedure and other contractual obligations on the Bow River Pipeline system
  • Analyze and provide insight on over/short imbalances and PLM alarms, identifying potential problem areas

Experience, Education, and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of industry measurement standards and regulations
  • Experience related to liquid hydrocarbon measurement and quality control
  • 5 to 10 years of Meter Proving/Measurement experience related to pipelines
  • Knowledgeable in measurement standards (API) would be an asset
  • Must be proficient in MS Office for data analysis, reporting and document writing
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and analytical skills are essential for this position
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license
