Project Engineer Cochrane
This position will report directly to the Manager, NGL Extraction Engineering and is located at our Cochrane Extraction Plant.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
- Manage the plant based capital projects from ideas through commissioning following company procedures for project management. This includes all aspects of project management required to take concepts and ideas through to complete projects that contribute to the plant's bottom line. Includes concepts and design generation, cost estimates, status reporting, construction management, equipment and project commissioning, and project signoffs.
- Contribute to plans and forecasts as they relate to plant projects and plant capital plans.
- Contribute to improvements to the liquids extraction processes through data collection and process modeling.
- Maintaining the plant's process simulation models and expanding their detail as required for project work.
- Generating concrete ways to improve plant efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, with respect for environmental impact, within all rules, regulations and industry best practices. Projects get completed on budget, on time, and are an operational success.
- Support the ongoing development of Engineering and Technical Standards as well as equipment specifications.
- Respond to plant and office technical requests as required.
- Subject to other assignments and projects as assigned from time to time. Role can develop into process engineering as familiarity with the plant develops.
- Mentor individuals and groups at the plant site in the skills and practices of good project management. Build from previous experience in operating plants to improve the skills of the group overall.
- Generate contracts as required for the completion of project work and supervise contractor's performance. Hands-on management of projects in the construction phase is required.
- Subject to additional time in off hours and on weekends to support successful completion of projects or support plant turnaround and shutdown activities.
Education, Skills and Experience:
- The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer with generally 5-10 years of relevant experience with either a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree (chemical degree preferred).
- Registration and continued maintenance of a Professional Engineer designation with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, APEGGA.
- Demonstrated project management skills. Certification in project management is a definite asset.
- Experience completing capital projects in a running plant environment is required as is experience as the owner's representative on a project.
- Experience with process simulations is an asset.
- Proficiency with MS Project or similar scheduling software.
- Knowledgeable in all current operating standards, codes, rules and regulations that impact plant operations.
- Must have a good working knowledge of engineering principles related to the NGL industry.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and outlook. Able to work in a dynamic team environment.
