Operations Overview

Inter Pipeline is an integrated energy infrastructure business that owns and operates four business segments:

 

Conventional Oil Pipelines

Comprised of the Bow River, Central Alberta and Mid-Saskatchewan pipeline systems, this business segment has over 3,700 km of pipelines. In 2012 these systems transported approximately 176,000 b/d in central and eastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. Learn More »

 

Oil Sands Transportation

Comprised of the Cold Lake, Corridor and Polaris Pipeline systems this business segment has over 2,500 km of operating pipeline and 3.8 million barrels of storage. The Oil Sands Transportation business is the largest oil sands gathering business in Canada - transporting roughly 813,000 b/d of bitumen blend in 2012. Learn More »

 

NGL Extraction

This business segment is comprised of the Cochrane, Empress II and 50% ownership of Empress V extraction plants located on the TransCanada natural gas transmission system at the western and eastern Alberta export points. In 2012 these facilities processed an average of 2.7 bcf/d of natural gas producing an average of 108,000 b/d of natural gas liquids. Learn More »

 

Bulk Liquid Storage

This business segment consists of 12 bulk liquid storage terminals located at deep-water terminals across the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, and Germany. Together, these terminals have a combined liquid storage capacity of almost 19 million barrels, forming the fourth largest bulk liquid storage business in Europe. Learn More »

 

Inter Pipeline is dedicated to growing each business segment by the optimization of our asset base through efficiency improvements and the addition of new value-added services. In addition, Inter Pipeline develops its asset base through organic growth projects. Both the Cold Lake and Polaris pipeline systems are undergoing major expansions due to market demand. The $2.2billion capital investment program will provide the Cold Lake and Polaris pipeline systems with ultimate throughput potential of 1.9 million b/d, and 1.2 million b/d, respectively.
